Surfing
Tamarindo, once a secret spot for the surfing elite, has become a world-famous destination since the filming of "Endless Summer II". Consistent swells and offshore conditions make Tamarindo one of the most sought after Pacific breaks. You can surf right off of Tamarindo or you can travel a few miles to some of the more secluded beaches, Playa Langosta, Playa Grande, Playa Avellanas, etc.
Turtle Watching
Two beaches very close to Tamarindo, Playa Grande and Playa Langosta, are protected nesting areas for the giant leatherback turtle, and are part of the national park system. These beaches are the major nesting areas worldwide for these turtles, which arrive from October to March to lay their eggs. Hotel Pasatiempo can arrange a tour with on official guide to visit this incredible spectacle.
Snorkeling and Scuba
Discover the diverse tropical marine life of Costa Rica at a variety of Pacific scuba diving and snorkeling sites, all with excellent visibility. One outstanding site is the Catalina Islands, a small cluster of rocks near the southern end of the Gulf of Papagayo. You'll have no trouble renting gear and arranging a trip with the many water-sports companies in Tamarindo.
Sportfishing
Costa Rica is on every international game fisherman's must-visit list. Nowhere in the world is there a broader abundance of game fish throughout the year and Playa Tamarindo is in the middle of the action. Sailfish, blue, black-striped marlin, dorado, tuna, roosterfish and wahoo... the list goes on. Pasatiempo can organize a day on the water for every pocketbook and level of expertise.
Golf
We're fortunate to have two great courses here.. either of which is more than a legitimate test of any golfer. Hotel Pasatiempo has joined forces with Hacienda Pinilla to offer a special golf package to our guests with a discount on rounds of golf. All you need is a decent golf game and some clubs, rent or bring your own. The course at Playa Conchal, Garra de Leon, is also open to our guests and is praised by international golfers as one of the most beautiful courses they've every played.
Sailing Cruise
Sail off into the afternoon sun aboard a 52' ketch. Weather permitting, every Friday about 1:30 in the afternoon, Guests can hire Samonique III for a cruise of the Pacific... there'll be cocktails and food, snorkeling if you choose, and often the dolphins, turtles and even whales join in the fun. At the end of the day, relax and enjoy the sunset.
